This programme was designed in partnership with teachers to help students develop financial capability skills. It also includes cross curricular links and practical tips for delivering the materials in class. It is provided to teachers free of charge.
The programme is divided into three age groups, 11 to 14, 14 to 16, 16 to 18 and into four modules, Bank on it, We’re in business, The credit file and Money for life.
The four modules take the students through the basics of banking and financial management – from the decision to open a bank account for the first time, how to set up a business, understanding debt through to managing money on a day-to-day basis as part of living independently away from home.
Each module is a complete ‘unit’ in its own right, which has been further divided into topics. These topics follow a logical pathway, but can also be used as ‘one-offs’.
Within each module a series of interactive activities leads the students through all the main elements of personal financial management.
The time you spend on the activities will be dictated by your school’s timetable constraints. You can run a series of sessions over three or four weeks or decide to work for an hour or so once or twice a term.
Short video clips can be used for introducing the module or a particular topic. The activities which follow are brought to life through the videos, but can be done independently.
At the end of the module, students get to complete quizzes on what they have learned. These can act as an assessment tool. Students find out how much they know and can revisit activities they haven’t yet grasped.
Comprehensive teachers’ notes are provided for each of the four modules. They include print resources and detailed timings.
Activity sheets can be printed out and used to reinforce learning either during or at the end of each module. They can be used as extension activities or as homework tasks.
